I Wondered around Durban beachfront yesterday and got caught up in the excitement of change, the old making way for the new. When those of you living abroad come home – you won’t recognise it at all. I tried to capture the feeling of the moment and in my happy snappy mood, I met many interesting people. The street vendors selling curios and crafts did not all want to be photographed; - Something about licensing and being recognised by Durban council. They said yes and then turned there heads at the crucial moment. The Rickshaw man wanted R50 for the photograph and when I told him that was far too much, he said R100 is ripping the tourist off not R50!!! I met Sibongile Nkosi who sold African art works from well known local artists. Davey who makes his own Surfboards, construction workers getting the place ready for 2010, those who enjoy fun in the sun and all those people who are trying to keep our city safe. I was impressed by our sand artists especially the sand man dressed in jeans and where would Durban be without its fisherman!!!;- working ones and those waiting for construction to be finished! KZN university students had an outing at the beach with full representation of our wonderful diverse cultures. I took the sky car to the top of Durban’s very own 2010 Moses Mabhida stadium. It was brilliant and worth the visit. The views are magnificent. I will try the walk next time and let you know!!! I took a few old and some very old sign land marks. Club Myconos is still there, same place newer sign, the Deck and Joe Cools especially for my son Jeremy working in Florida; we miss you!!! All in all it was an exciting morning and I will definitely be doing it again, camera at hand ready to snap some more!!
